Blog vs. Social Media Battle of the Platforms

Hello friends! You may have been wondering where I’ve been! Over the past month or so I have been active as usual on Instagram, everyday. I have been reevaluating what I want to do with this here little blog of mine. You see, and this statement is judgement free as I am guilty as well, I find that people do not read the blog. Or blogs in general, according to my other blogger friends.  At least it is not getting the attention the same review or post gets on Instagram. Blogging isn’t hard, but it does take time and effort and it can be discouraging when you feel that effort isn’t reaching people! Which by the way, is the point of a blog and reviews! In the past year I have found that most people just don’t take the time to go to the blog, let alone read it. We all want instant (or should I say Insta) gratification. I am as guilty as the next person!

I have conducted polls on Instagram, and the overwhelming majority of people, greater than 95%, prefer an Instagram review to an entire blog post. There, I post reviews, new releases, and even non-bookish related posts. All of which have a far greater audience than this here blog. So I am left asking myself if I should keep the blog? What is the point if everything I want to do can be done on Instagram AND the content is reaching people? I am still evaluating what I want to do, but my leanings are toward completely dedicating my time to Insta.

To my author friends, publishers, and marketing specialists– please consider those on Instagram who don’t have a blog. Blogging simply is not the best way to promote a book or any other product. It feels like a tool of the past, and polls back this up. I cannot tell you a single book I have become interested in or bought because of a blog post. But ones found on social media? The list is endless!

So my friends, if you have been wondering why I have been MIA I actually haven’t been! I can be found on Instagram everyday! I will continue to take some time to decide what direction I want to take in regards to this blog and in the meantime you can always find me @theliterarybirds (Instagram) or send me an email at theliterarybirds@gmail.com
